Getting Traffic
Increasing online traffic to your web site may be the hardest thing to do when starting online presence. You can hire most everyone else, a web designer, a content writer, and buy web space accounts with huge bandwidth allotment. But to get people to actually find your site, visit it and stay for longer than a second, it takes time, some search engine optimization expertise and patience.
You can hire a search engine optimizer, of course. Or, you can try to do it yourself manually or with the help of a few SEO software. For both cases, you are not promised anything. A search engine optimizer will optimize your site, on-site and off-site. He/ she will submit to search engines, directories and forum, and other similar sites.
Search engines spider the web only at certain times per month. So even when all this work has been done, you will need to wait. Hopefully, you web site is optimized correctly and gets a high ranking. The worse thing that can happen with optimization is that it is done too much such that your site gets considered as spam. Here are a few things to remember:
1. Always have a robot.txt with instructions for spiders to follow. Search engine spiders always look for this file first.
2. Always have site-appropriate meta data. This is the first thing logged by the spiders. Have relevant page titles on all pages.
3. Watch your pages key word density. Never go beyond eight percent per page.
4. Submit your link to search engines and directories.
5. Posts in forums and make sure to include your signature in your posts. In your signature, include a link to your site and your site services. Forums get a lot of spider traffic and can help you with your ranking. Remember to post only in relevant forums.
